  • Transfer of your loved oneTong & Peryer’s ‘family remembrance service’ allows for 24-hour phone access to a member of our ‘family care team’ to facilitate the transfer of your loved one (*within a 50 km radius of our premises) into our care and obtain all relevant paperwork, and cremation authorization required.
  • Arrangements of documenationWe welcome family and/or the executor for arrangements at our premises or in the family home. These arrangements will cover all details of documentation needed, along with booking times required.
  • Service detailsYou will be able to meet with our on staff celebrant/or Minister chosen by family, for service details which will be included in 100 high quality service program keepsakes along with a ‘photo-presentation’ tribute at the service. (*photos provided by family)
  • Memorial pageWe will also include ‘service details’ on Heaven Address (* www.heavenaddress.com) a wonderful memorial page for your loved one, and our website (*www.tnphb.co.nz) at no charge to you for tributes to be left from friends and family along with a standard size newspaper notification in the local paper (*Hawkes Bay Today ) of service details.
  • Dressing, preparation and preservation treatmentDressing, preparation and preservation treatment will be done with a dignified and respectful manner into a cremation casket (* 4 options to choose from) along with availability of visitation and private access to our lovely rooms or your choice to be taken to the family home along with a beautiful a cut sheath spray of seasonal flowers on the day of the service.
  • Transfer of your loved one to CrestwoodThe funeral director working with you will transfer your loved one from our rooms/or home to ‘Crestwood’ by Hearse (*2 options to choose from) to meet for the family remembrance gathering.
  • RefreshmentsRefreshments for 50 people will be served after the service in the Crestwood lounge. We will also include signing registers on the day for those who have attended and create a ‘keepsake memory book’ with all signatures of attendees and images from the photo-presentation.
  • Cremation feesThis does include all costs including cremation fee, venue hire, catering, newspaper, cremation certificate costs and registration with the Department of Internal Affairs.
  • Return of the cremated remainsContact will be made with family/and or executor for the return of the cremated remains along with collection of all documentation required for the Estate.


Tong & Peryer traces its origins back to 1878, when it began trading as S.T. Tong – Cabinetmaker & Undertaker. Mr John Peryer (Des Peryer's Son) ran the business until 2007 when it was on sold to Terry Longley & Son of Havelock North.

Retaining the Tong and Peryer name was paramount as the company had been in existence for over 130 years and held a special place in Hastings Funeral Directing history, serving many Hawke's Bay families over the years.

Shortly after that time the business was also relocated to new premises at 509 Queen St West, Hastings. The new premises at Queen Street are now able to offer, Private Family Lounges and Visitation Rooms to allow family and friends the opportunity to visit and pay the last respects in peaceful surroundings.

Tong & Peryer are proud to be associated with the New Zealand Independent Funeral Homes. New Zealand Independent Funeral Homes (NZIFH), was formed by a group of leading New Zealand Funeral Directors to 'Set the Standard' in client service, Funeral Home premises and training.
